Discover Agen’s history, architecture and art of living through the city’s most beautiful sites and monuments, including the Boulevard de la République, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Cathedral of Saint-Caprais, the medieval Rue des Cornières, the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville and the timber-framed houses of Rue Beauville. The tour continues with a visit to the Jacobins church, before heading to the Michel Serres footbridge to explore the river.
You’ll then be immersed in Occitan culture with the poet Jasmin, before finishing with a prune tasting at the Destination Agen Tourist Office.

Discovering the Garonne eductour
Guided walk – Discovering Boé and the wealth of la Garonne

This guided walk will introduce you to the history of Boé, starting with the church of Saint-Sulpice in the heart of the village. You’ll then make your way to the Boé slipway, where you’ll learn about the Lécussan ford and the pilgrimage route to Compostela via Moirax, not forgetting the famous Agen philosopher Michel Serres, son of a dredger and bard of the river. You will then make your way to the Maison de Garonne. This Garonne observation and interpretation centre has been set up in the recently renovated Tour Lacassagne, on the edge of the Passeligne nature park. Here you can discover the history of navigation, the Boé bargemen, fishing and biodiversity in the Garonne.

Discovering the new pontoon at the Port of Agen and its technical facilities (20 rings, water and electricity services). The visit will be led by the project manager who managed the project: Sylvain Galant from the CITEA design office. A comparison will be made with the nautical stops at Boé and Sérignac-sur-Garonne (he also led the rehabilitation of these sites). Clémence Brandolin-Robert, 1st Deputy of the Agglomeration of Agen and Nadine Labournerie, President of the Destination Agen Tourist Office will present the political progress of the project, the importance of these facilities of community interest and the development prospects.

Eductour Pont-Canal d'Agen
An incredible canal bridge

A unique and emblematic feature of the city, the Pont-Canal is a link between the two banks of the Garonne.
Discover this work of art, the second longest in France, with its 23 ashlar arches stretching from one bank of the river to the other. A real architectural feat, it was built in the 19th century. 4 locks close together complete it downstream.
Take the Voie Verte, the old towpath, and enjoy the tranquillity of this Sunday stroll for the people of Agen.
The tour continues as far as the Café Vélo, a former waterworks that has become an emblematic venue for cycle tourism, with a range of locavore restaurants.
The tour ends with a hot drink.

Christelle Cousset, the manager of La Poule à Vélo, will welcome you for a gourmet break as you discover the first restored lock-keeper’s house in Lot-et-Garonne.
